The residence visa process
Entry permit
We apply for the entry permit through the relevant immigration authority.
Medical fitness test
You complete the medical test at an approved centre; we book the appointment.
Emirates ID biometrics
Biometrics are captured for your Emirates ID, which now serves as proof of residence.
Residence issued
Your residence is approved and your Emirates ID is issued.
Documents commonly required
- Valid passport (usually with at least six months’ validity)
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Company documents or sponsor documents, depending on the visa
- Attested certificates where required (for example degree or marriage certificate)
- Medical fitness certificate
- Health insurance where required
Frequently asked questions
Do UAE visas still come as passport stickers?
No. Residence visa stickers have been replaced: the Emirates ID now serves as the official proof of residence.
How long does a residence visa take?
Timelines depend on the visa type, the emirate and how quickly medical and biometric appointments are completed. We give you an estimate when we review your documents.
Can I sponsor my family?
Residents who meet the salary and housing requirements can sponsor their spouse and children, and in some cases their parents. We check your eligibility before applying.
